Eating For Everest – Introduction

Hi there, how lovely of you to stop by…no really I wasn’t being sarcastic. If you are reading this it means I have an actual follower, guess that means I’m a real blogger now?!?

My name is Lauren Grieve, I am going through my quarter life crisis and it is amazing…said NO ONE EVER! Then again no one ever warned me about a quarter life crisis. Until recently when I heard the words life crisis, I pictured wrinkles, grey hairs, sagging butt-cheeks and waking up one day with a sudden fear of having hip replacement surgery – paired with the intense desire to dress like Miley Cyrus and purchase a wrecking ball. You know…like old people problems? Nope, apparently it doesn’t work that way.

I’m 25 years old, I’ve bagged my degree, had my first job and best of all I very recently got married to my handsome best friend. Yeah it all sounds great on paper but aside from my marriage, being a ‘grown up’ has been pretty overrated.  I’ve spent just over a year working a job so excruciatingly painful, that I took up comfort eating at my desk, for a hobby during the week and drinking on the weekends. Two really bad habits for an insulin resistant PCOS patient.

Slow Suicide

The turning point for me was when my Doc used the words “a slow suicide”. I realized that somewhere along the line, I’d stopped chasing dreams and started chasing money! It was time to put down the shovel and climb out of the hole I’d dug for myself. So I figured if I was going to climb, I might as well go large. I quit my job and got a new work from home one. I quit friendships that were emotionally taxing and decided to quit the habits hurting my health. I figure change is like climbing a mountain, its a painful process but once you arrive at the summit – you feel like you’re on top of the world.

Mount Everest VS Me

I’ve decided to live out my long time dream and take this analogy literally. That means I am heading to Nepal at the beginning of next year on a quest to Everest base camp. Now it is not exactly the summit, but its almost two thirds of the way up and considering that it’s ME who is hauling my ass up there, it might as well be the bloody summit okay! I’m a recovering pre-diabetic sugar addict; who up until recently considered using the elevator to go for smoke breaks daily exercise. This is my story.
